1 ampere is equivilent to 1 watt or volt.

Heres a great conversion site: http://www.onlineconversion.com/ Ampere is a unit of measurement of the quantity of electric current. It is equal to a flow of 1 coulomb per second or 6.25 x 1018 electrons per second. The current produced by 1 volt acting through a resistance of 1 ohm.

An Ampere (Amp) is a measure of current flow in an electric circuit. One ampere is one coulomb of charge passing a given point per second.

Additional Information.And the above is certainly correct, however...

For future reference, use the following formula to convert between Amps, and Watts.

Watts=Amps*Volts

So...

in house wiring, 1 amp at 120 volts will give you 120 Watts, or just about enough to run 2 60watt lightbulbs.

If you want to run a 1,000 Watt toaster, plug into the formula:

1000=Amps*120

OR

Amps = 1000/120

OR

Amps = 8 1/3

Your question is akin to asking, 'What is the equivalent of one kilometre per hour in kilograms?' Watts are used to measure power, whereas amperes are used to measure current. These are two completely different quantities, so neither is equivalent to the other.

You cannot divide an amp into tenths or else wiring would come out and it would electrocute you. On the other hand, you could plug in a guitar and strum the strings to make music.
