1988 Mazda RX 7 Convertable. Having problems when tachometer reaches 3500 RPM it boggs totally lose's power then when it hits 4000 RPM it kicks back in..Any ideas?

this sometimes occurs when your fuel system has a blockage, usually in the fuel filter. try changing the fuel filter first.
The dreaded 3800 RPM hesitation is cause 90% of the time by poor ground connections between the engine, the battery, and the car. Clean or replace all the under hood ground connections. If there is still a problem after that, look at cleaning the fuel injectors and (on a N/A) that your 5th/6th ports are operating correctly.
3800 RPM Hesitation I found that the plunger on the vacuum switch near the throttle cale was sluggish - spray WD40 and work loose- spray all linkages, springs and vacuum sdeceleration switch at front of manifold.

A: It is like an analog tachometer it reads RPM or speed and display in Numbers on a read out. You can find the application on airplanes and your car except it is an analogue instrument. I built one once for my car the read the RPM it was totally unsatisfactory because of the car inherited noise and on a 3 digit readout the least significant number was totally useless. The noise It can be clean out with filters then again the read out will be slow but on a car where the speed changes continuously analogue is proven Superior and most people don't care it it is 100 RPM or 101
