If its a new Liberty just call the Dealer or any Dodge/Chrysler Dealer for the location. On the 2002 Liberty it is in the right rear corner. You remove the plastic covering and there is the connector there where you can connect in an adapter. There is also a rubber plug in the right rear corner intended to allow you to feed the wire out without drilling a hole. You then reseal the rubber grommet with silicone sealant.

Purchase a harness that is custom made for your vehicle and is not a universal harness. It comes with complete instructions on how to hook it up. It is very easy and normally no wiring is needed. It is just disconnect and plug in. Here is just one, and you may find one cheaper at Walmart or local dealers. http://hitches4less.com/Jeep-grand-cherokee-trailer-wiring1.html

You can purchase a wire harness assembly [converter] from U-Haul or other trailer supplier. They run about 18.00-32.00 dollars.

SOME U-Haul stores can install it for you for around 30 bucks labor. Most stores are booked and can't do just a wire job. I used to work there. There are full instructions inside the package if you do it yourself.

You will need 2 wheel ramps, unless you are super skinny, since you must run a hot wire from the battery to the converter box. This is not as difficult as it sounds, you will just get a bit dirty.

This installation will require that you remove your tail lights as you will be splicing your existing light wires to the converter.

WARNING!
>Never run a hot lead next to a fuel line or moving parts! It could cause an ignition!
>The wire will most likely be ran on the DRIVERS side.
>Don't for get to set the parking break and chock the wheels!

I would write a tut, but it this installation is dependent on your vehicle. Good Luck!

Remove spare tire first. Remove left taillight with by using a 10mm socket to remove nuts on the taillight. Open compartment door on lower left side of cargo area behind spare tire area. Inside this compartment find an electrical plug connector junction going to the taillights. Unplug this connector and replace the plug with one like it on the trailer lights module kit, plug the other end to the other end that was disconnected and feed your wires down from the trailer light module in the compartment to taillight area. Feed wire down and under the vehicle to your trailer plug-in bracket on the receiver hitch. Wire up the trailer plug, reinstall the taillight, replace compartment cover, spare tire, your done.

Step 1) Purchase the wiring harness from a Jeep dealer. About $75

Step 2) Remove the interior cover inside the right rear cargo area below the R.R. window.

Step 3) There should be an open harness plug that matches the open end of the harness you -purchased. Plug your new harness into this plug.

Step 4) Remove the rubber body plug from the floor pan inside the fender area and fish the harness through the hole and seat the harness grommet in the hole in the floor.

Step 5) Route the harness under the vehicle above the hitch area in order to keep it from sagging or getting hooked on grass and debris while driving.

Step 6) Attach the plug to the hitch with bracket supplied with the hitch. Hopefully you already have the towing package on your Jeep so you can disengage the OverDrive when towing a trailer. If not, you can use the shift lever to operate in 3rd gear and not in OD. The towing package also includes a transmission cooler in order to extend the life of the transmission due to the heat generated by towing. Good luck!

How do you install a wiring harness for a trailer hitch on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that has no exposed wires whatsoever under the rear bumper?

If it is like a 99, just remove the plastic panel behind the spare tire on the drivers side in the back. In one of the cut-outs you will see connector plugs that connect the harness to the tail lights. Good luck. go behind the spare tire, there is a panel that has to be removed. You will see some black connectors in there. You can by a wiring harrness that will plug into there without any cutting of the factory wiring harness. These work fantasic, as I have one in my 2001 Cherokee. this is very easy to do has the new harness plugs right into the vehicles. You can find this wiring harness at Walmart or any parts store it is made by Hoppe. Good luck and I hope I helped you. Semper Fi

Is there a fuse for a factory installed trailer wiring harness on a 2002 Ford Explorer The cars tail lamps work but no power goes out to the trailer Turn signals and brakes work on both?

I imagine a 2002 would have similar wiring to a 2000 Explorer which I've just discovered myself has 2 fuses dedicated to the factory installed trailer wiring. Fuse #3 is for the left trailer signals and fuse #7 is for the right. Hope this helps someone to avoid all the hassle I went through to figure this out.

How do you hook up trailer brake lights from 91 jeep Cherokee?

Many auto parts retailers will have a plug-in trailer connection that is designed specifically for your vehicle. If they do, it's usually just a quick process of following the directions. It's worth it especially since it can help you keep from having the connections corrode.

How do you set up a towing wiring harness for a 1994 suburban which includes a towing package?

Have you looked under the vehicle? I'd be surprised if the wiring harness wasn't already there and taped up under the vehicle. Barring that, most business that sell and install trailer hitches will also install trailer wiring harnesses. If you're a DIY, go to the local auto parts store and ask. They probably have the wiring harness you need all setup to plug into the manufacturer's wiring harness.
