No; that is not a true statement. F-250's are very powerful trucks. You are probably thinking of one paticular 1976 F-250.
If a 1997 Ford Mustang with 3.8 v6 starts and then dies, it could be glitch with the anti-theft system. There could also be an issue with the ignition connections or low fuel pressure.
i have a 1988 Ford Bronco XLT 5.0 4x4. The truck will start and idle for about 15 to 30 seconds then acts like it has no fuel and dies.
Sounds like it has to do with the micro-chip in the key. Starts for about 3 seconds and dies. In 1999 Ford installed a micro-chip in the ignition key for Anti-theft purposes. If the chip isn't there, or is malfunctioning, the vehicle starts briefly and dies.
You should probably get that checked by a mechanic.
There are many possibilities, but from the information given, it sounds like it could be the passive anti-theft system(PATS) might be preventing the vehicle from running. PATS on that year works by shutting down the fuel pump after about 3 seconds if it doesn't receive the correct info from the key. Does the theft light blink rapidly when you start the car? If so, you have something wrong in the PATS system. Either the transponder inside the handle of the key is bad, the transciever in the steering column is bad, or the PATS module is bad.
It has a vacuum leak or the IAC is faulty.
You can reset the 1997 Ford F1 50 pickup truck computer by removing the wiring harness from the computer. Keep the wiring harness disconnected for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
Yeah my 1991 Ford Tempo does the same thing it starts and idles no problem but if i stop at a gas station and leave it running and come back out to the car i put it in reverse or drive it dies every once in a while
