If you only did the front brakes, the problem may be in the rear brakes.
If you're changing the brake pads and there is too little rotor thikness to turn it, it should be replaced. If the rotor is warped and is too thin to be able to turn to remove the warping, replace it. If the brakes "pulsate" when you use moderate brake pressure, the rotor is warped.
Brake rotors wear just as brake pads do and when they wear down beyond minimum specs they become unsafe. Good brakes are a # 1 priority.
If they are warped, they need to be turned, if they are groved, they need to be turned. If they are glazed, they need to be turned. In general, if you are working on the brakes, they need to be turned.If they are too thin (not wide enough across) to be turned, they need to be replaced. Many newer rotors are not thick enough to be turned, so you just replace them every time you replace the brakes. Most auto parts retailers will measure the thickness of the rotors for you and tell you if they can be turned.

Most of the time, you can get by with just replacing the pads. The rotors generally do not need to be turned if there is no pedal pulsation or vibration. Rotors will need to be replaced if the exceed the minimum thickness which is stamped on the web (area with lug holes).
if there is uneven wear on the rotors, the new pads will take time to wear into the grooves on the rotors. rotors in poor condition will reduce the efficiency of your brakes, and promote wear of the pads, you will end up changing them more often. Most brake shops can turn rotors back to being smooth and true.

Sometimes it happens because of rotors. If they are old and have a lot of grooves on its surface it will cause the grinding noise. Also it might happen if brakes were not cleaned properly during the replacement.
Yes, I understand the emergency brake has to be off so the pads wont be up against the disc or drum when attempting to change the brakes and rotors.
