The history of the Colgate toothpaste company began before Colgate toothpaste was sold. The company was started by William Colgate in 1806. At that time the company sold starch, candles, and soap. They began selling toothpaste in 1873. At that time the toothpaste was sold in jars.
There are several reasons: first of all, hygene was improving at the turn of the century and many people had begun to brush their teeth (maybe not all 1,600 people on board, but at least those in the first and second class). Second, toothpaste was usually held in special porcelain jars, and thirdly, they were collectables (especially the lids, which were either hand-painted, or transfer-printed, for thre cheaper version).
The potters that made the first jars.

Colgate was actually made in... Who the hell Cares like wtf?just use already EDIT: Colgate is a brand name for dental hygiene products. I am presuming that you are referring to their toothpaste as this is the product that the word "Colgate" is synonymous with in so many countries today. Colgate as a brand has existed since 1806, but was primarily a soap and starch manufacturer. Their first toothpaste, packaged in a jar became available in 1873.

To create a pickle one must first have a cucumber, quick process pickling mix, clear vinegar, and pickling jars. Clean the cucumbers, cut them into smaller pieces if desired. Combine pickling mix and vinegar together in a non-metal pot, and bring it to a boil. Fill the jars with cucumbers and pour the boiled pickle mix into the jars. Seal the jars, then boil them in a pot of water. Remove jars from water, and set aside to cool. The pickles can be eaten after 24 hours, though it is best to wait two weeks.
The metal expands a bit.
