I am working on the similar problem but mine has a bad fuel pump in the tank. I was looking through the manual, before removing the tank, to see what might be simple to fix that could be causing my fuel pump to not work occasionally. I would replace your fuel pump relay first. the contacts in the rely might be hanging in the on position and not releasing. The pump will run for a second or two when you turn the ignition on (right before you start it) and it will run a few seconds afterward. but if its running for more than a couple of seconds either way. then you may have a rely problem. How i found out it was a pump instead of the rely was. I carefully poured a 1/4 cup of gas into the throttle body and opened up the butterfly valve and then turned the key. if it tries to start then it a pump or rely. Of course, as always, USE CAUTION and do not do anything your not comfortable or confident in doing, while working on a vehicle. It may cause serious injury or death.
