96 nissan pick up. oil is coming from the valve cover thru a hose and into my air filter. what could be the problem.? |

Most likely it's what's called "blowby", that's when the piston rings do not seal adequately against the cylinder walls and exhaust gas leaks past, into the crankcase. when that happens the oil vapor is pushed into the breather tube the way you describe.
It COULD be a PCV valve, but even if it is you should check for blowby
