Rest. At rest denotes a constant velocity including velocity of zero. Newton's Law says that a body will change its velocity ,accelerate or decelerate, only when an external force is applied. No force, no acceleration, no change in velocity. At rest itself denotes no force.

This goes with Newton's First law. It can also be called Inertia.

An object at rest tends to stay in rest an object in motion tends to stay in motion?

Because of inertia

Which term refers to the tendency of an object to maintain its state of motion?

Inertia. An object at rest, tends to stay at rest, while an object in motion tends to stay in motion.

It is generally easier to push an object once it is moving than when you are getting it started because of what?

Inertia. 'A body at rest tends to stay at rest unless acted upon by an external force'.

Why are you pressed back into your seat when a car quickly accelerates as the light changes from red to green?

your resistance to a change in motion or inertia does this. Your body is still at rest once the car is accelerating foreward. The same happens when the car stops suddenly. You keep moving foreward because of inertia.Principles of Newtons Laws of motionAn object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.Your body is at rest at a stoplight. When the car you are in accelerates an outside force (the car) is acting on your body accelerating your body along with it. Your body resists this acceleration because of its tendency to stay at rest. The resistance is felt as pressure against the seat of your car.

How long are stewed prunes safe to eat with refrigeration?

They will stay as long as you leave them there. An object at rest tends to stay at rest while an object in motion tends to stay in motion- one of the basic laws of physics.
