Drinking the punch... various answers that have been proposed
- He poisoned the punch...?
- Perhaps he didn't drink enough of it...?
- The poison was in the ice; the man drank the punch, and left before the ice melted and poisoned the punch.
- He drank right before the punch started to become poisonous
