The advantages of civil law are that it makes a decision. A powerful person or corporation can not run over a small individual or pollute your property without having to pay, etc. If you are in a car wreck or a factory pollutes your land, you can sue for damages and get money to take care of your problems.
The disadvantages are that a jury is made of people may not understand the problem. They may not understand the evidence and can be swayed by a fast talking lawyer. An inexperienced lawyer may not get you a fair settlement.
