Any ideas on repairing the stick shift cable to trani connector on a 97' Neon standard without buying the cable from Dodge the connector is just missing the rubber insert looks like a washer may work?

The cable from the shifter and transmission broke in our 97 Neon. We reconnected it with about 8 paper clips, that was 2 years ago, and we've had no problems since.
You will need to go the Dodge dealership and buy the whole cables for about $200.00.
- dont listen to the bs above you can get one in a salvage yard for almost nothing,i had same problem,im a machinist i made one and it works fantastic,no need to replace cable
A:95 Neon. Shift cable end at transmission was damaged....center of loop end was missing, making shifter function sloppy....I took a nut that would fit a 9/16" wrench and put it in the cable loop using silicone to glue it into the cable end. When it dried, I slipped it over the transmission shift lever pin, using a sliced plastic straw to take-up the remaining play between the nut threads and the transmission shift lever pin. Finally, holding all in place, I used a "body washer"(large washer with small hole)and a "c" clip in the grove on the shift lever pin. Shifts like new!
