answer:

There are approximately 8,000 Messianics living throughout Israel. However, a true count is almost impossible as many Christian evangelical groups are now referring to themselves as Messianic Jews.

answer:

There are approximately 8,000 Messianic Jews known to be living throughout Israel. However, a true count is almost impossible for several reasons, INCLUDING THAT:

  1. Many Messianic Jews are considered to be Non-Messianic Jews by the Israeli government. [Supervisor's note: The Israeli government has no such designation as "not religious".]
  2. Many Patrilineal and even Matrilineal Jews are already not considered Jewish enough to be counted as Jews. Couple that and their Messianic Jewishness, and they are left all the more uncounted as Jewish. [Supervisor's note: Israel doesn't recognize ANY patrilineal Jews as Jewish]

There are probably a few thousand Messianics with Jewish heritage (the majority of Christians who refer to themselves as "Messianic Jews" have no Jewish ancestry). A study done on Messianic Jews in the 1990s showed that 72% of them had no Jewish heritage whatsoever. Of the 28% who were, the majority were not raised in a practicing Jewish household.

Answer:

There is no exact or fair approximate count of how many Messianic Jews there are for several reasons. Among them: Many Messianic Jews do not know that they are Jewish and have Jewish heritage. Many Messianic Jews are not openly Jewish or openly Messianic Jewish. Many Messianic Jews are Patrilineally Jewish and otherwise"not Jewish enough" for the (for a lack of a better term) typical (Non-Messianic) Jewish person (even though Isaac was the first Jew, and Jacob and Esau were Patrilineal Jews; the sons of Jacob were one-fourth Patrilineally Jewish, and at least three of Jacob's sons had one-eighth Jewish, Patrilineally-Jewish children).

Anti- and Counter-Missionary types (which include the Majority of Jews) do not consider Messianic Jews to be Jews. However, tolerant Non-Messianic Jews do consider Messianic Jews (even though they are in staunch disagreement with Messianic Jews) to be Jewish.

What major ethnic group most influences the culture of Israel?

The answer you are likely looking for is: Jews. However, this asserts that Jews are a monolithic group, which is incorrect and negates Israel's minority influences. Every Israeli ethnic group influences Israel. Since Israel is a democracy, all of its various constituent peoples have the ability to raise their voice and run for political office. Since Israel has numerous parties and coalitions need to be formed to govern effectively, even small parties can have a strong and powerful say in the government. Some ethnic groups with influence in Israel include: Secular Liberal Israeli Jews, Secular Conservative Israeli Jews, Nationalist Russian Jews, Orthodox Ashkenazi (European) Jews, Orthodox Mizrahi (Middle Eastern) Jews, Druze, ethnic Palestinian Muslims, ethnic Palestinian Christians, Bedouins, and Circassians.

Where do most Jews and Christians live in the region of Israel?

Jews are found all over Israel (within the 1949 borders) and in some places, settlements, in the West Bank. Jews form the overwhelming percentage of the Israeli population south of Jerusalem (even though the population of that area overall is barely 10% of Israel's population). Jews also form the majority of Central Israel (between Jerusalem and Hadera). Jews form around 50% of the population of the Galilee Region. Christians live in specific cities in Israel and the West Bank such as Nazareth and Bethlehem. Christianity is a minority religion and between the combined 12 million (including refugees in camps) population of Israel and Palestine, Christians make up around 200,000-250,000 people.
