As a whole I can not say that ABS is food safe. There is more than one grade of ABS and while all of them are most likely food safe, there are specific food safe variants. Piping in your house is probably ABS, there are ABS drinking containers available, etc etc. But this could be the whole BPA fiasco too in a few more years, who knows. As for being medical safe, I have no idea what the stipulations are for that.
In general, food safe plastics are processed more carefully, to ensure that no harmful chemicals end up in the product.
PVC and ABS
Thermosoftening plastics soften and can be given any shape when hot. The different types thermosoftening plastics are Polyethylene, Polystyrene, Poly Vinyl Chloride, ABS plastics.
It is any of a class of plastics based on acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrenecopolymers.
Certain companies do make ABS roof truss . Abs is also plastics
ABS Plastics easily recyclable, but this can be severely limited by additives to the plastic such as flame retardants.
By and large acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) products are safe for any food item, including beverages. ABS is so prevalent in plumbing and food/beverage packaguing that your one little pitcher would be the least of your worries should you need to worry. If your concerns remain, consider converting all food containers to lab grade glass. A 5000 ml beaker, however, will run you about $200.
There are different types of plastics named polystone, resin, vinyl, PVC and ABS.
The majority of plastics in plumbing are joined by glues specific to those certain plastics. There are at least 8 different PVC glues, CPVC glues and 2-3 ABS glues. Plastics in the acrylic industry are also joined by a variety of glues and compounds specific to certain plastics. Some plastics are 'hot air welded' . -Very few plastics are joined by mechanical means.
ABS plastic or the 'Acrylonitrile butadiene Styrene' is a common thermoplastic. It is an amorphous and has an approximately 105 degrees Celsius glass transition temperature and no true melting point.
abs plastics are used for ATM cards
No. ABS is safe for potable water.
