Many Christians (including the late Pope John-Paul) are able to reconcile Christianity with evolution. In fact Christians have been able to reconcile their beliefs with scientific discoveries long before the discovery of natural selection.
Many other Christians, as well as many evolutionists recognize that the two belief systems are irreconcilable without doing serious damage to either one or the other. In other words, if each is taken at face value, they cannot be made to mix. Thus it is contended with some justification, that Christians who make their belief agree somehow with a belief in evolution are either ignoring or changing what their belief and the Bible upon what that belief is based really says.
