Yes there is no doubt about it. if someone says different then i totally disagree with him or her.

He appears to be a Huckster of mediocre advice at best. Often on the TV show he comes across as rude, opinionated, and arrogant. Probably one of the reasons so many people like to watch it, kind of a highbrow version of Jerry Springer. Many of the guests are also held to a contractual ransom of sorts, similar to how the producers of the Jerry Springer show treated their "guests".

He went to University of North Texas for his PhD, a 4th tier college, which means it has the lowest ranking. His PhD thesis was on the psychological effects of rheumatoid arthritis. His license was suspended and revoked for having a sexual relationship with a teenage client. He was ordered to take ethics classes, but never finished them. He currently does not hold a license to practice anywhere, nor has he held a licence for quite sometime.

no they call him, talk about there problam, and they get on for free

Not quite true. It is true that the producers of the show go not go out and search for guests; they do receive many calls. However, the guests first must agree to a contract stating that the show and the rights holder retains all copyright material and no guest can ever sue for being "abused" by Dr. Phil, also no guest is allowed to walk out during the show otherwise they will be sued for breaching the contract The guests expenses, fights, hotels, limousine etc. are all paid for and after the show they receive "parting gifts".

So YES they are paid. Just not directly with cash or a cheque. Usually it is a prepaid credit card.

no

The above answer is not my answer. I guess someone got here first; maybe Dr. Phil himself since they didn't list any reason for the answer: no. The "hot sauce Mom" from Alaska, who abused her adopted son from Russia using hot sauce and a cold shower actually did complain that she had sent 2 previous tapes to Dr. Phil, requesting to be a guest on his show. With each tape, the producers told her she had not punished her son enough to warrant her being flown in as a guest (she did not "need enough help"). The earlier tapes had her yelling, they told her, but not punishing the boy.

So she went extreme, trying to "earn" her place on Dr. Phil, and then she got charged with child abuse (which she should be!). However, this tells me that the Dr. Phil show is only after ratings, as I always suspected, and not truly trying to help families on the edge. Heck, Dr. Phil's license to practice psychology is also long expired, and only was meant for the state of TX then, not CA.

I always suspected actors too: Some of his guests are Jerry Springer crazy.
