God, Lord, Allah, etc, etc, etc. There are many names for this all powerful being that so many religions honour. In the end, it comes down to an individual's belief. Some people beleive that God is a white-bearded old man sitting on a cloud in Heaven and looking down at us at all times, while others believe it isn't a person at all but a spirit-like entity that has no shape or form as we know them. Most people believe that there is some form of Higher Being, but until this person/entity/being shows itself, its name and physical description will be up to individual interpretation. Or as some say, "Many Names, One Master."
Opinion - Jehovah's Witness
In The Bible the Word "God" refers to God The Father. Lord refers to Jesus Christ or Jehovah. Jehovah created all things under the direction of The Father. He gave the Laws to the Prophets. In short from your ever long winded friend is they are two seperate individuals.

The Holy Ghost, Jesus, and God the Father are all the same being but yet separate persons; God refers to all three... Lord is a title of authority; it's complicated for our tiny brains :)
Diligent study is required to obtain correct answers!
"God" and "Lord" are NOT names...they are titles. Judaism, the root of Christian belief, recognizes only ONE diety. That diety, Elohim (a title) has the name YHVH (a tetragrammaton) The completely correct pronounciation is unknown at this time but is close to either Yahweh or Yahvah (we know that the first part of the name is pronounced correctly). The sacred name was revealed to the Patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And also to Moses. The correct pronounciation will be revealed when Israel and Judah are reunited as one nation in the very near future!
One cannot rely on modern versions of the Scriptures for the whole truth. Even the present day King James Version of the Bible uses the incorrect name "Jesus" for the Savior. "Jesus" is the English translation of the Greek name "Ieosus" (pronounced E-A-Zeus) found in the original 1611 KJV bible. The letter "J" didn't even exist in ANY language prior to about 1630!
Elohim has ONLY one name! His one name was incorporated into the name given the Messiah at his birth. That name being Yahshua. Ya (the shortened form of Yahweh/Yahvah) and shua...a Hebrew word which means "is salvation"...Yahvah is salvation.
Allah is the Arabic name for "God."
Opinion
Yes. There are hundreds of names for God. All of them are wonderful.

In the universal language of mind, God created light. The Lord God is the division of this light into our individuality, referred to as I AM. I AM is the inner most part of each of us.I AM was existant before the creation of mind as a vehicle for light to gain experience. Remember Jesus said " before Abraham, was I Am". He also said " I Am-the way, the truth and the light- no-one comes to the father but by me. Me is that personal identification of the many different qualities we possess and are so unfamiliar with. This is why we can only know God to the extent we know ourselves. When we come to know our true and real selves, we will recognize our father. To know me is to know my father and vice-versa, according to Jesus.
Lord was used as a title long ago and is still used today is some societies.
Many times Lord is confused with Lord God which is the I AM.
All these pictures are presented clearly through language of mind.
Someday.
Opinion --Here We Go...
Surprisingly, the answer is yes. Let me explain.
As many have mentioned, Lord and God are titles. "God" is also a species of supernatural, superpersonal Being(s) who transcend the time-space dimension. "Lord" means "Owner".
The Bible tells us that the LORD is God (The "LORD", as opposed to "Lord", being an all-poweful entity whose name is most likely YAHWEH.)
Jesus was referred to as the Lord. I'm now going to work under the assumption that you believe that God comes in Trinity - as we come in body, mind and spirit, or water comes as ice, liquid and gas. In which case, Yeshua (Jesus; Immanuel) is in actual fact, God the Son...and Yahweh is God - the Father.
(I need help there - someone said that Yahweh was Jesus. It seems likely because there was also, in the Old Testament, an "Angel Of The LORD", who seemed to act as God's "stunt double", to borrow a phrase - an all-powerful Angel who got worship like God [burning bush], and yet, was of God. He had the Name of God written in His heart. The actual Individual Deity would be hard to pin down here because if Yahweh=The Son, AND Yahweh=The Father, then God and Jesus were indeed One prior to the incarnation.
Hence, the manifestation of God is often referred to in the Old Testament as the "Angel of the LORD", or the LORD God...were the authors trying to convey the idea of the LORD and God in One?)
Two Names. In the New Testament, the illusion that these Beings are separate. Two Beings who are One...One God.
"The Father and I are One," Jesus declared. David saw his Lord speaking to his Lord. In Hebrews, God is reported to have addressed Jesus as, "...O God." The fulness of Divinity was pleased to dwell in Jesus. Jesus is the visible image of an invisible God. He is God. The Father is God. Mind-boggling? Yes. Beautiful? Most definitely yes!
But as to the NAME of this Being? He called Himself Yahweh to Moses (some translations, "I shall prove to be who I shall prove to be." Other translations: "I AM.") In different languages Yahweh will have different spellings (Jehovah, Yehova, Yehowa), different translations...chaos follows. But the solution to this is presented in Revelation.
He is seen sitting on a white horse with a Name written on Him that no one except He Himself knows.
That silences so many arguments. So many theories.
Which, I think, is pretty cool.
THE LORD IS GOD.....
Opinion
The word 'God' is a reference to the Father. He is a 'god' by virtue of his attributes [His powers] and our Father by creation. When used in upper case, 'LORD' also refers to the Father. This word, 'Lord' is generally associated with Jesus and in lower case, 'lord' pertains to the 'lord of the land' or as we call them today ' landlords '. So yes, 'God' and 'LORD' are one and the same.
