When you are a newborn baby you get Christened. your parents or guardians are supposed to make an oath saying that they will raise you teaching the gospel and Bible's teachings to you. When you get baptized, you yourself have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and believe that he was crucified on the cross and died for your sins and rose again on the third day. In some denominations, baptism is used to refer also to the baptizing of infants when the godparents 'accept' salvation on the part of the child. This is termed sprinkling by those who believe that a person must be able to decide for themselves.

Christenings are more of a naming ceremony.

First understand what one is "being saved" from. "For ALL have sinned and come short of the Glory of God," Romans 3:23. "The wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." There are consequences to sin, ultimately eternal death. To be "saved" is to be free from the consequences of sin (eternal death), and given eternal life. "For God so Loved the world that HE GAVE HIS ONLY Begotten son and whosoever believes in Him shall not perish (eternal death), but have EVERLASTING LIFE." John 3:16. "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were DEAD in TRANSGRESSIONS (sin)-it is by grace you have been saved. . . . For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast." - Ephesians 2. We are "saved" by the Grace of God and not by any action, ritual, rite, or good deed or good intention. "Being saved" is being certain we will not receive the punishment for our sins, but receive eternal life in God's heavenly kingdom.

Baptism started with the ministry of John the Baptist, who taught salvation came through being accountable for sin and repenting, or "turning from" it. John baptized those repentant - those that recognized their sinfulness in relation to a Holy God - by imersion in the Jordan River. John baptized Jesus (Matthew 3, Mark 1, Luke 3), and a voice from heaven acknowledged both John's ministry and Jesus' obedience with "This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased." The act of Baptism is symbolic of the "new birth" or "dying to sin (underwater), and arising as a new creature (coming up out of the water). "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17. It is most commonly accepted that a person that is accountable for their sin, recognizes the need for "being saved," which means putting aside the OLD and becoming NEW in Christ.

Baptism is "the next step" in acknowleding sin and the need for salvation. It is a rite or ritual of publicly professing Faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is an action of obedience to the Will of God. A person is not "saved" by being baptized (not according to scripture). BUT Jesus, the Son of God, our Redeemer says: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but ONLY he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matthew 7:20. Again Jesus states: "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." John 3:3. Jesus modeled this baptism by obeying the prompting of God, and was FIRST baptized before He began his earthly ministry of miraculous healings, deliverances, and discipleship.

Unfortunately modern colloquialisms in the English language have some how made the two terms nearly synonymous, but in Biblical context they are not similar at all. "Being saved" is an assurance, knowing one is free from the eternal consequences of sin. "Being Baptized" is an action or deed that is symbolic of Christian Faith. Salvation only comes from God. The act of baptism varies between churches, except that it was something that Christ did.

There are slight differences. A baptism (derived from the Latin for a ceremonial washing) is generally the acceptance of a child or adult into the Christian church. A christening is all that but also involves the giving of a "Christian name" to a child.

It can be the same thing; it depends on your denomination really. Many Christians consider baptising to be different than christening. Christening oftentimes refers to the christening of a baby whereas baptising is often applied to adults.

Roman Catholic AnswerThe traditional English word for baptism and the act of baptizing, i.e., making Christian. The manual for priests printed at Douay (The English seminary in Belgian during the period when Catholicism was outlawed in England) in 1610 still gives the vernacular baptismal formula as "I christen thee . . ." A Christian name is so called because it is the name given when one is christened.

from A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second edition, revised 1957

Given all that, I do know that, among Protestants today, at least in the United States there is something that they call "christening" while putting off Baptism until the child is much older.

How do you get saved if you are Jewish?

"get saved" is a Christian term and concept and does not apply to Judaism. The reason being that the Christian concepts of 'sin' and hell do not exist in Judaism. There is nothing to be saved from. Therefore, if a Jew were to "get saved" in the traditional Christian theological thought, they would have to convert to Christianity and ask for forgiveness of sins, be baptised and ask Jesus to be their Lord and savior.

There is no difference in meaning. When an indirect object comes between the verb and a direct object, the preposition is dropped. For another example we may say You gave him the book or You gave the book to him.

Can you be a Christian without being baptised?

No, Ephesians 2:8-9 says "for it is by grace you have been saved, not by works, but through faith, lest no one can boast". To be a Christian, you must accept Jesus as your Savior. John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father (and heaven) except through Me."
