Countertop dishwasher have been around for over 10 years. They are very popular in Japan and manufactured in Japan as well. About 20 manufacturers make these little dishwashers and none have a brand name except for Black and Decker & RCA and Magic Chef. They ALL FOLLOW THE SAME BLUEPRINT DESIGN. The differences are cosmetic, some have more cycles and more insulation. They all work very well. I recommend a SPT (Sunpentown),
Edge Star, or Farberware. Retail between $200-$300. You can buy one used for $100!

After cutting directly on my granite countertop, I have experienced that my knives get dull after a few uses only. So cutting directly over a granite countertop will not affect the countertop material but it will affect the sharpness of your knife. I have installed granite countertop in my kitchen with the help of pros at countertopshop.net and mostly I avoid chopping things directly over the countertop.
