Yes, it is true that some species of Dolphins are endangered
First, Dolphin and Tuna follow the same ocean routes. When fishermen use nets to harvest tuna, dolphin can get caught in the nets and get fatally injured or drown. When they struggle in the nets, they become more tightly entangled, and the nets can cause serious cuts, therefore, even if they manage to escape, they may die from their injuries.
Second, Dolphins are endangered due to the general demand of humans for sea food. Overfishing has contributed greatly to endangerment of dolphins. Lack of food is a major reason for many dolphins to swim into strange waters seeking new feeding grounds. Also, another reason is pollution has caused aquatic plants to die out, causing many fish to seek new feeding grounds.
Lastly, dolphins are endangered due to water pollution. The pollution of water bodies has increased significantly, causing toxins and acidic levels to rise, especially in the shallow coastal waters where rivers dump into the ocean. Materials are illegally dumped into rivers and washed to sea, and much is deposited straight in the seas. These materials poison the dolphins and cause health problems, which affect their reproduction, swimming speed and can even lead to death.
Most of them are, but not all breeds.
_________
Dolphins will be on the brink of extinction if dolphin hunting continues.
Additional Information:
There are about 40 species of Dolphin, of those, 36 are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, or the IUCN Red List. The status of those range from critically endangered to data deficient, with 6 posted within the "endangered" category, and 2 listed with a "Near Threatened" status. The following are the species that are listed as "critically endangered, or "endangered".
Baiji - "Critically Endangered" with a population trend of "Unknown",
Hector's Dolphin - "Endangered" with a population trend of "Decreasing",
South Asian River Dolphin - "Endangered" with a population trend of "Decreasing".
Just the sheer number of Dolphin species listed is a strong indication that Dolphins in general are in serious trouble, and can be considered endangered. Even though each species is not listed individually as an endangered species, this information can be used to help educate the public about the dangers that dolphins face now and in the future.
