Definitely not - they have very particular needs, require a special diet and are susceptible to a variety of diseases which must be recognised early if they are to be treated. In addition to this, ferrets need to have their living quarters cleaned daily, must have the claws clipped monthly, must eat every three to four hours and require a great deal of attention. If not handled correctly, they can become very aggressive and are capable of giving extremely nasty bites with their sharp teeth - I'd highly recommend an easier pet such as a rabbit for a first pet, especially for a child.
