Generally they are. One one documentary that I watched (part of Life of Mammals by David Attenborough as far as I can remember) he compared a line of primate skulls. Each was noticeably larger than the last. The larger the group that that primate lived in, the larger its brain size. If you type some of those terms into Google you would probably find more information.
