Hydro power is produced by harnessing the power of water, using a Hydro Electric Dam for example, whilst solar power is produced by harnessing the power of the Sun by using solar panels. Hydroelectric power can be used all day and night. As for solar, of course, it can only be used during the day. Solar does produce more power than hydro does so it is more efficient to have solar power than hydroelectric power. It doesn't seem so because you'd think that running water all day and all night would produce more power than the sun powering solar panels only 10 -12 hours a day. Trying to run your pond by using the running water from it to power its self doesnt work as well as you think it would. Unless your pond has a waterfall with the force of Niagra Falls, I don't think that it would be wise to try and power your pond with your pond. Not a good idea and a waste of money.

Solar is also more expensive. Hope your not getting bored...:) ANYWAY... So if you can somehow power your home by wind, the sun's energy, or water of unimaginable force, you will be paid for any extra energy you are creating. If you can make more money than you have to pay in power bills you will have made money and therefore be able to use that for whatever you want. Pretty cool huh? Its worth the money if you plan on staying in your home for 5 or more years.

Hydroelectricity has several benefits. Some of those benefits are that it is a renewable energy source, it produces very small amounts of greenhouse gases compared to other types of power plants, and it doesn't emit any airborne pollutants.

Hydro-electricity produces no greenhouse gases. Neither does solar.

Hydro-electricity is free and green, after the initial setup. So is solar.

Hydro-electricity does some damage to the environment in the way of flooding valleys and destroying native habitat. Solar does not.

So Solar is probably better than Hydro.

In some places, solar energy is more efficient, or better, than hydro because, like Australia, there isn't a lot of water and a good natural current flow to produce hydro-electricity.

Some places don't get much sun, and have a lot of water flowing, so hydro is better there.very true

Two more advantages hydro-electric power has over solar power:

The first is that it is much more compact for a given power output, unless you count the area of land flooded. It also uses far less rare-earth minerals.

The other is that the hydroelectric power-station will run day and night all year round irrespective of light and weather (provided the river keeps flowing, of course).

Hydro electricity is electricity created by using the motion of the water to turn a generator or turbine to create power. The water is naturally occuring and therefore there isn't a cost to create a driving force.

In a hydro plant you simply use the potential energy of the water in falling a height into the turbines, so you extract most of this potential, whereas in a fossil fuel or nuclear power plant operating on the Rankine cycle there is a lot of low quality heat rejected, in fact around 60-70 percent of the thermal energy input to the steam turbine is wasted.

Hydroelectric power is better than fossils fuels because it is renewable and environmentally friendly. Hydroelectric power is also very efficient and inexpensive compared to fossil fuels.

because it has more energy..And makes other ones not run as fats as hydroelectric does cant seem to produce as much energy that hydroelectric can..

It's relatively nonpolluting and it's renewable as long as the Sun continues to shine and rain to fall.

Mostly because it is reliable, rivers where hydro dams are places seldom run low because of the backed up water reserve.

What if potential energy is pumped into hydroelectrical installators?

It is ! That's exactly how a hydroelectric generator works.Water, possessing a huge amount of potential energy, is allowed to pour ontothe vanes of the turbine, and in the water's mad, passionate, gravity-inducedfrenzy to shake off all of that potential energy, it gladly gives up much of it tothe generator, which converts it into electrical energy on the spot.
