Are large soft lumps rising under the skin on your head in different places a dangerous symptom of something?

My name is Josh, I have lumps on the back of my head too. I did some research and it could be lipomas. Lipomas are not harmfull!! They are fatty build ups and can be hard or soft. Mine are hard and are on both sides of my head. Or it could be a gland that is larger then normal. You could get them checked out by a doctor. I had a soft bump removed from my head and was told it was a benign cyst wich if not taken care of can grow to about the size of a grapefruit.nothing to fear as far as health is concerned its just built up fatty tissue.Be aware that if not all of the cyst is removed it can regrow,wich is whats happened in my case so now it has to be removed again.the procedure is painless and my doctor was able to do it without shaving my head or creating a bald area.good luck

hey guys it is my understanding the lumps on both sides of head or neck is actually reassuring.... it usually means infection.... where lumps on one side on one side of head or neck could mean something worse.......for infection they usually give you antibiotics and you are on your way.....and of course for cysts the do opt to remove them usually (for cosmetic purposes)

So this is part of what I do for a living and just to clarify, cysts are fluid filled sacs, can be found anywhere on your body and for the most part are benign and you can keep them for ever. Lipomas are lumps of fatty stuff and I guess they can get bigger but they also are benign. No one can predict if either will grow to the size of a grapefruit or any other fruit. And neither are affected by antibiotics. They only need to be removed if they are troublesome to other things, like hanging off your eyelids.

They can be any one of the following: cherry angioma, dermatofibromas, epidermoid cysts, folliculitis, keratoacanthoma, keratosis pilaris, lipomas or neurofibromas.
Cysts are noncancerous, closed pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid or pus.
A cherry angioma is a smooth, cherry-red bump on the skin.
Dermatofibromas are harmless round, red-brownish skin growths.
Epidermoid cysts, also called sebaceous cysts, are benign (non-cancerous) and when squeezed produce a cheesy material. The sac has to be removed completely or it will refill.
Keratoacanthomas are rapidly growing, red, dome-shaped bumps with central craters.Keratosis pilaris (commonly called KP) appears as "chicken skin bumps" on the skin and it is harmless.
Lipomas are subcutaneous soft tissue tumors (fatty) that usually are slow-growing and are harmless. They have a soft, rubbery consistency.
Neurofibromas are soft, fleshy growths that occur on or under the skin. These are harmless tumors; however, they can turn malignant or cancerous in rare cases. Since they involve the nerves, they can be painful.
Another "lump" that may be felt is an enlarged lymph node. These are caused by an infection close by it. You may feel these in the groin, in the arm pit or along the jaw line. A doctor's visit can clear all this up.
