Yes, for some women it can be.

I talked to a GYN nurse this morning and asked that same question. She said, yes, it is possible and not uncommon.

I spoke to my doctor regarding my initial question about cramping. I told him that I was still experiencing this minor cramping and he took me off work calling it a threatened miscarriage spell at this time. I would suggest noting where the cramps are felt, when, and for how long as in days. This will be a good indication for your docotor to decide what is best for you. In my case I am now taking progestrine suppositories to calm my uterus down. I am also off work for 6 weeks. I did also find out that I was pregnant with twins and one is not developing. In my opinion I believe that is the source for my cramping.

Yes, your uterus is expanding and stretching to make room for baby. I had horrible cramps with my pregnancy... but still i would seek a doctors opinion if you are pregnant and having bad cramps to be on the safe side.

It would probably depend on far long you are. It usually isn't a problem unless there is spotting or bleeding. It was explained to me that most of the cramping is from the uterus growing and expanding. But I would talk this over with your doctor. Personally my pregnancy has been full of cramping, its been actually very painful, and everything is normal and healthy. But this didn't start until the begining of the third trimester, before that any minor cramping should be ok, but always let your doctor know about symptoms you have, just to be safe. And if it is accompanied by any bleeding, go to the hospital. I had cramping more in my second pregnancy and when I asked my doctor about it I was told that it was due to everything inside stretching to make room for the baby
They say occasional abdominal discomfort is common it can be harmless but it can also be a sign of a serious problem if that abdominal pain is persistent don't ignore it. Another sign something could be wrong is any bleeding or spotting.
It depends...if the cramps are accompanied by bleeding then you should be worried. If you think it is too severe then u should see a doc. Many women experience cramping early in pregnancy and even later on. It really depends on how bad the cramps actually are and if they are accompanied by bleeding. If the cramps are painful and you cant stand them then visit your doctor. But on a more positive note cramping is common in early pregnancy as your insides are growing to fit the baby.
Cramping during pregnancy, unfortunately, can mean multiple things; some are okay and some are not so good. It can be gas, constipation, your uterus growing; signs of an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, and the list can go on and on. If the cramping continues and it concerns you too much you should contact your doctor.

Yes

Cramps are often caused by low nutrients. Your body has just begun spending its nutrients on creating a child, it leaves your own body with less to function.

If proper nutrition through healthy foods and basic stretching are not enough to keep your cramps under control, consult a doctor. They may be able to suggest which nutrients you are low on (low potassium for example is often a leading cause of muscle cramping)

Do not resort to pain killers or vitamins without consulting a doctor. (for example increasing your potassium should first be attempted through eating foods like bananas and Oranges, rather than taking pills. An overdose in pill form could be harmful if not regulated properly)

What do the trimesters mean?

Trimester simply is a term that refers to dividing the normal 9 month pregnancy into three 3-month segments. So, the first trimester is the first three months of pregnancy; the second trimester is months 4-6; and the third trimester is the final three months. Hope this helps! Dr. B.

What do people mean when they say in the first trimester' of a pregnancy?

A trimester contains the prefix 'tri' as in triangle - and it means 3 or a third. The first trimester of a pregnancy therefore means the first third of the pregnancy and as a pregnancy is 9 months long, it refers to the first 3 months.
