∙ 15y agoIt depends on the drug and the age. Generally, any drugs containing aspirin can breakdown over time and make you sick.
Most opiates last a long time if kept in proper containers and environmental conditions (cool or room temperature, dark or original containers). Although I've since moved on to much stronger opiates (Fentanyl, Percocet) I still have Vicodin from the days prior to using the drugs I use now. My last Vicodin prescription was 10 years ago. Since they're no where near as strong as the stuff I use now, I don't use them, but for those of us who had problems with insurance companies and other problems that could lead to an interruption in prescription fills, having an old standby is better than the alternative. The drugs I take are Schedule II, meaning I cannot get refills - I have to get new prescriptions every month.
