Pit Bulls are absolutely wonderful people dogs. In fact, it appears to be the family breed of choice for the "Dog Whisperer". It is only when the Michael Vick's of the world ruin them that they become unstable. I agree all the way!!! my pit bull chow chow mix is the BEST with kids!!! he seems kind of scared with men but we think that his first owner abused him and now he is afraid of them but he would never hurt them...
They are great dog. They will tolerate the pulling and pounding for hours! I couldn't even do that! Before people started targeting them, they used to be known as nanny dogs!
Another Opinion:I completely agree with the above statement. Many people fail to realize that it's the owner's fault that pitbulls are either not great with kids or dangerous aggressive dogs, not the breed. An owner that doesn't know how to handle a strong breed like a pitbull will get into a heap of trouble, resulting in a bad behaviour and possibly dangerous dog.A well-trained and well-socialized pitbull will be great with kids. A pit bull that is great with kids is also one that has an even greater owner that knows the dog.
Yes, they are good with children it mostly depends on who you got them from. like if you got them from a pound they are good but like if you got them from a friend or somewhere else bring them to the vet or somewhere where they will train them not to be bad/ really bad. they don't bite that much unless your kids just keep bugging them, they will start to growl that is a sign to get them away for a little bit. your welcome :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
In a word, yes. Pit Bulls can be safe with kids. Anyone who has any legitimate knowledge of dog breeds knows that pit bulls are usually great with kids. It is just plain common sense not to leave any dog alone with small children but pit bulls are certainly not bad with children compared to most other Dog Breeds.
Historically pit bulls have been a favorite companion and friend to children and tend to like the excitement of being with kids. As long as they are socialized and trained properly, pit bulls are the perfect dog breed to withstand the rough play of kids.
According to the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS), Pit Bulls pass their test with flying colors. In fact, the Pit Bull scores a little over 85% which is better than many dog breeds that people consider to be friendly or nice.
To put that score into perspective, it is better than the Beagle, Cocker Spaniel, Collie, Golden Retriever, Pointer, Pomeranian, Poodle, Shih Tzu, Vizsla, and most other dog breeds actually. The average score of the general dog breed population is only around 77% so the Pit Bull scores much better than the average.
The ATTS test focuses on and measures different aspects of temperament such as stability, shyness, aggressiveness, and friendliness as well as the dog's instinct for protectiveness towards its handler and/or self-preservation in the face of a threat. The success of Pit Bulls in this series of tests proves they are not naturally mean or violent.
Any dog expert will tell you that pit bulls are actually one of the nicest and most loyal dog breeds in the world. They are very loving, aim to please, great with kids, and are far from being mean. Every breed of dog can be trained to be mean but none of them are naturally that way, especially pit bulls.
