Are roosters dangerous and how do you handle a rowdy rooster?

Answer:
No. Roosters are not dangerous, just feisty. Most people get a laugh out of the video's of kids being chased around the barnyard by a rowdy rooster who is more than happy to take up the chase, once the offending child is on the receiving end of the feathered terrorist. Roosters in fact are simply doing what nature has programed into them, defending the flock from predators and danger. Handling a rowdy rooster just means standing up to the feisty cockerel and taking control. Once the bird realizes you are the aggressor he will lift his tail feathers and make every attempt to escape Grab him and tuck him under your armpit holding the wings down and you are then in control of the rooster, not the other way around. Spurs are not as dangerous as most people think, while they can scratch a bare leg, the bird must be in the air and both feet off the ground to use them effectively. Once in your arms he may bite and protest but he really can't do much damage. A few quick strokes of the neck feathers and he will calm down.
