No. The 400 is externally balanced, the 350 is internally balanced.
Yes, the only small block Chevy flywheel that doesn't interchange is the small block 400 ci.
Chevy 400 small block ,and 350 small block are the same block and they are interchangeable. Essentially this person is right however, the stroke on the 400 is different, with a 4.00 stroke. Also, there are some subtle differences, such as either the presence of a third freeze plug on the side of the engine block, or not having one at all. The bell housing is the same and you can make a larger engine out of a 400 block. Due to the fact the bore and stroke is the same dimension. also you will need the flywheel or flexplate off the 400 because they are externally balanced.
No. The 400 is externally balanced and requires it's own flywheel.
It will but mods are reqd. I believe it is 6" longer so have to relocate cross member and probably use diff flywheel or dual, 400 starter and probably a cable shifter as well.
yes but it has to be 83 or newer
Yes of course. All Chevy engines are interchangible with transmissions. For example, you can have a 305, 307, 327, 350, 400 with a turbo 350, turbo 400, or 700r4 big block are also the same
The bore and stroke is different, But if you set the 2 side by side they will look the same other then some 400 engines have an extra freeze out plug in the side of the block that the 350 don't have. 350 bore and stroke is 4.000 bore, stroke is 3.480 400 bore is 4.125 and stroke is 3.750
There is no need for a adapter plate, The 350 trans. bolt pattern is the same as a 400 trans bolt pattern. All Chevy transmission are interchangeable up to the year 2000
I believe it is about the same as a 305 / 350. 600 lbs. I recently swapped a 400 into a trans am with a 305 and the car weighed the same at the track.
Yes it will.
About 400 lbs.
350 250 same driveshaft 400 different driveshaft
