Who are the Beach Boys?
The Beach Boys The Beach Boys are an American rock and roll band. One of the biggest music groups of all time, the Beach Boys recorded thirty-six U.S. Top 40 hits… (including four #1 singles) and many best-selling albums. They have sold more singles and albums than any other American rock band and had the most Top 40 hits of any U.S. rock and roll band, with Chicago at a close second place. Performing since 1961, the Beach Boys are America's longest running continuous rock group, and are especially well known for their distinctive vocal harmonies, which Brian Wilson arranged with both jazz vocal and doo-wop influences. Unique among rock & roll groups, each member of the Beach Boys is a gifted and important lead singer. The act first gained popularity as the musical spokesmen for surfing, girls, and cars, with many radio-friendly hit records; later, Brian Wilson's growing creative ambitions transformed them into a more artistically innovative act. In the mid-1960s he expanded on the group's recorded sound by importing Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound musicians "The Wrecking Crew" and composing/producing more album-oriented work. As a result he transformed not only the group's image and status (particularly in Europe), but developed a fresh palate of musical concepts and production techniques, the influence of which continues today. The Beach Boys are second only to their main competitors in pop music, which were the Beatles, artistically, and Motown, sales-wise. The group is comprised of composer/arranger/producer Brian Wilson (bass/keyboards); his brothers Carl (guitar) and Dennis (drums/keyboards); their cousin Mike Love, and friends Alan Jardine (guitar), David Marks (guitar) and Bruce Johnston (keyboards/bass). By the end of the 1960s all band members were writing and producing songs for the band. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and have been called "America's Band."1 Their music falls into the categories of rock & roll, pop, psychedelic, R&B, singer-songwriter, AOR, & rock. 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beach_boys the best band ever!!!! What are facts about the Beach Boys' lyrics?
Each member of The Beach Boys has written both music and lyrics to songs recorded by the group and individually. The most famous songwriting team for the Beach Boys has been B…rian Wilson & Mike Love. Although Brian has written many songs on his own, the majority of hit songs by the group included Mike Love's lyrics. Other lyricists working with Brian Wilson have included Gary Usher, Roger Christian, Tony Asher, Van Dyke Parks, and Joe Thomas. On their first several albums, the lyrics themselves entailed the subjects of the beach, surfing, cars, girls, and other fun, optimistic subjects shared by American teens. Mike Love has rightly claimed that, at least lyrically, he is "Mr. Positivity", whereas Brian Wilson (as a lyricist/composer) is "melancholy". "The Lonely Sea", "In My Room" "Til I Die", and "Wendy" are but a few of the sadder songs Brian has written himself. Most telling were the lyrics he and Tony Asher collaborated on for the album Pet Sounds. For this album, and a number of ballads on their previous two albums (Summer Days & Today, respectively), lyrics dealt with growing up and lost love. In 1966 and 1967 Brian Wilson collaborated with musician/composer Van Dyke Parks on several songs for the SMiLE album; Parks described the theme as "an American Gothic sort of trip", and a number of these songs were recorded and released prior to the 2004 and 2011 releases of their work together. In 1968 Dennis Wilson, and in 1969 Carl Wilson & Bruce Johnston, began contributing songs to the band, and by the early 70s Al Jardine was also writing songs for the group. Although The Beach Boys are gifted as a "cover" group, recording the songs of others, they are essentially self-contained -- writing and producing their own compositions. Other outside lyricists have contributed to the band's output as well. (MORE)

In what year did the beach boys get the name of The Beach Boys?
The Beach Boys formed in 1961. The original name of the band was The Pendletones, derived from the Pendleton woolen shirts popular at the time. In October 1961, The Pendletone…s recorded twelve takes of "Surfin'" in the offices of music publishers Hite and Dorinda Morgan at Stereo Masters in Hollywood. A small number of singles were pressed. When the boys eagerly unpacked the first box of singles, on the Candix Records label, they were shocked to see their band name changed to "Beach Boys". From that point on they were known as The Beach Boys. (MORE)
