Which ranger do you have because normally you take the air housing off then the serpentine belt then the mounting bolts on the alternator then remove the electric connection.
If your trying to locate the alternator it's on the left side of the engine above the tensioner
disconnect battery. remove electrical connections from alternator. remove serpentine belt. remove alternator mounting bolts and remove alternator. Installation is reverse of removal.

Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery. You may also have a battery drain (something that is staying on and killing the battery)

for clearance raise vehicle on jack stands. disconnect neg batt cable, remove all wires from alternator, remove drive belt, remove adjusting and mounting bolts, then remove alternator from below. install is reverse order of removal. be sure to label wires for easier replacement.
