The only quirk I know of on 3.8's is a tendency to leaky head gaskets. Not a big deal to fix on rear wheel drive like the Cougar.

The Supercharged motor in the cougars is the same that was in the Thunderbirds. There are a few drawbacks to owning a Supercoupe (supecharged 3.8). They like to blow headgaskets, they like to destroy harmonic balancers, and when they destroy the harmonic balancer, they usually take out the crank sensor. If anyone has an opportunity to own one of these cars, i would take it. The Supercoupe is not a very good daily driver. I own a 1990 Cougar Supercharged 5 Speed, 1 of 847, and just got done with rebuilding the motor in it, they arent that hard to work on, just time consuming and they require patients and someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to these cars. An excellent web site to go to for the Supercoupe is SCCOA.com.

When did brusnwick mercury outboards produce the v8 outboard?

As I recall, Mercury produced a 300 hp V8 with a cast iron block back in the early 80's. Because of the weight factor, it was not very popular, andwent out of production after a very short time. Brunswick Mercury has never offered a v-8.
