I'm assuming you are going to run it in the washing machine. If you attempt to clean your leather jacket at home you will be left with a much stiffer and dryer version of the coat you started with. Only use woollite as a detergent---listen I do not recommend this but if its your only coat and cannot afford dry cleaning it will still be wearable however its overall condition will not be the same, color may also bleed in the water. Also make sure you dry it at a very low temp with a blanket so it tumbles a lot while drying. Dry time will be about 3-4 hours on a low heat. It is possible to spot clean but you will be left with a mark that is darker that the rest of the coat after it dries. The only leather coat you can clean at home and this is only to spot clean is a smooth leather jacket. (The finish will be really shiny, like letterman or varsity jacket sleeves.) These you can easily just wipe off with warm water. However in any other case concerning leather or suede it must be cleaned by a professional leather dry cleaner. We use a dry cleaning solvent that is infused with oils and detergents made specifically for leather hides to keep the garment in proper condition. Midwest Leather Cleaners
