DVD discs are an equal weight and spin on their center, it is important that the disc is spun in a stable fashon in order to keep the laser in line with the data that it is reading. It is therefore recommended that you do not apply small labels by hand to a disc.
A DVD disc label should cover an equal amount of both sides of the disc in order to retain the balance. It should also be applied to the disc accurately using a disc labeler mechanism.
Badly applied or imbalanced labels not only risk data corruption but also may cause the disc to shatter at high speed destroying the reader.
If you do not wish to invest in a proper disc labeling kit then it is recommended you label your discs simply with a felt tip permanent marker pen, which are sold cheaply for this purpose.
