Tornadoes and twisters are the same thing.

Willy-willy is an Australian word that has been used to describe something quite different. A willy willy is a small to medium sized dust-devil, or rotating wind, which picks up debris and sand particles. It is not a sandstorm: neither is it restricted to deserts and sandy regions. Although it is more common in the outback, it can regularly be encountered within open suburban areas such as school grounds or parks. It is not a powerful as a tornado; tornadoes in Australia are rare, but they are still nly called tornadoes. Willy-willies are completely harmless, with the most damage being dust in one's eye.

It is important to note that, for some time, a popular information site has perpetrated the misinformation that the Australian Bureau of Meteorology refers to a willy-willy as a cyclone near Australia. This is blatantly incorrect.

Tornadoes and twisters are the exact same thing. People who live in the Tornado Alley States such as Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas nickname tornadoes, twisters because tornadoes happen a lot there. Twisters is the slang version of Tornadoes and many people all over the world use the word twisters when talking about tornadoes.

A tornado is a violent whirlwind that is in contact with the ground and the cloud base of the thunderstorm that produced it. A willy willy, or dust devil, is a smaller, weaker whirlwind that forms on hot sunny days and is not associated with any storm activity. Dust devils are usually harmless, though they can occasionally cause minor damage.

What is a hurricane called in Australia?

Yes: willy willy. That's a severe tropical cyclone. Correction: Contrary to popular belief, a willy-willy is not a severe tropical cyclone. A willy-willy is a small, harmless twister that does nothing more than collect dust and debris as it sweeps along. In the southern hemisphere, cyclones are known as cyclones. In the northern helishpere they are known as either hurricanes or, in parts of Asia, typhoons. Cyclone is the generic term for a severe tropical storm that can be categorised into varying degrees of destructiveness, according to the speed of the winds.

Do tornadoes spin clock wise or counter clock wise?

It depends on the hemisphere of the Earth that the tornadoes are in. In the Northern Hemisphere, like all low pressure systems they spin anticlockwise. However, in the Southern Hemisphere they spin clockwise. This change of spin is due to the Coriolis effect. Similar to water down a drain. Tornadoes are a very localised low pressure system in extemis. Of slightly higher eye pressure are hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, and willy willy's. Hurricanes ; Carribean/USA Typhoons ; South China Sea. Cyclones ; Bay of Bengal. Willy Willy's ; Australia ( An aboriginal name). These atmospheris phenomina occur elsewhere in world, notable Brazil, and South East Africa., but they do not carry a name. Of slightly higher central eye pressure again are normal atmosphereic depressions. The anitcyclones are regions of the highest pressure of all.
