I have a Canon Powershot A710IS, and I had been using normal NiMH rechargeables but found they didn't last any time at all. This was even when I fully-discharged and then recharged new ones and kept them in the butter-compartment of the fridge. I am now using 'ENELOOP' batteries made by SANYO, and I have had no trouble with them and they last for ages and are utterly reliable when you need them. They are low-(self) discharge rechargeables, come already charged in the blister-pack when you buy them (about 70% charge) . Doubtless there are other companies making that type as well now, but don't get conned or persuaded by the salesman into buying the ordinary rechargeables that lose about 2-3% every day just doing nothing at all. (I was put onto them by the camera writer for the "Green Guide" in the "Age" newspaper in Australia. )
