Both cv boots are bad on my 1998 Nissan Altima GXE and I hear a strange grinding noise while turning left and right is it safe to say I need to replace my cv joints and would an axle assembly fix it?In: Nissan Altima |

Answer
Once the CV boots have failed (unless you were watching when it happened) the cv joint inside has gone bad from grit and running dry. Don't mess with an individual CV joint. Replacing the whole axle makes much more sense in the long run, since it is actualy less effort and you will end up with a new axle and 2 new CV joints. The axle half-shaft includes both CV joints for that side of the vehicle.
