It really depends on the cause of the vision problem. My son has 20/200 vision and it is caused by his optic nerves being under developed. There is way to correct his vision because there is nothing that can be done to the optic nerves. If the problem is with the eye itself there may be a way to improve the vision. There are basically three things that can be the source of the visual problem, eyes, optic nerve, and brain. The best thing to do is have the child evaluated by a pediatric opthalmologist. They'll be able to recommend the next step. If the cause of the blindness is in the brain the child will likely be recommended to a pediatric neurologist as well. And being legally blind is by no means the end of the world. There are lots of great resources available out there. www.wonderbaby.org is a great place to start.

What are the vision requirements for Navy Seal?

You must not be color blind and have normal depth perception. Uncorrected vision no worse than 20/200 in both eyes. Both eyes must be correctable to 20/20. The Color requirements are also the same for any technical rate which deals with Electronics. The reason is obvious - you cannot work on Electronics, or in the SEAL's case, bombs, if you are color blind either partially or completely. The danger to yourself and to others is just too great.

What is normal vision dictated by?

Normal vision is 20/20 vision, or in metric 6/6. This means that when you are 20 feet away from something, you will see what someone with normal vision would see at 20 feet away. With 20/40 vision, you would see something 20 feet away as someone with normal vision would see it at 40 feet, so therefore it would be blurry. 20/100 is also possible and 20/200 is considered legal blindness. 20/10 would be better than normal. Do you need 20 20 vision to be a pilot?

Civilian Pilot: It needs to be Correctable to 20-20 to be a civilian pilot. So you can wear glasses and fly. Military: You need to have 20-20 vision uncorrected to be a pilotso you would have to get laser eye surgery to be a military pilot, however other military employments in an airborn craft maynot need glasses. Such as a navigator. Answer two: It depends on your country of origin mostly. Here in Canada you need: Civilian: 20/30 corrected/uncorrected. Military: 20/20 corrected. Since last year, glasses are now allowed. Laser eye is still not and according to my local recruiter, probably never will be.
