Otomax can cause temporary deafness in dogs, but only in the ear it was placed in, unless it was used in both ears. It is really really super rare though. Usually the deafness clears up in about 6 weeks, and the medication should be switched, maybe to Surolan. The other possibility is that the infection the dog was put on the otomax for did unforseen damage to the ear that just happened to show up when you started treating it.
