I think the only association it has with Christmas is its appearance in A Charlie Brown Christmas. Schroeder wants to play it for the Christmas skit, because he is so obsessed with Beethoven. It was included on the soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. This soundtrack is one of the best Christmas albums to come out in a long time, and since it is almost entirely light instrumental jazz, it makes great background music for stores, so you will hear the album pretty often during the Christmas shopping season. The Für Elise track just came along for the ride.
