The factory nav system sucks. I don't mean that it's not very good, I mean it SUCKS. BIG TIME. The maps haven't been updated since 2003. Jaguar and Alpine had a falling out and now Alpine refuses to provide updated maps. But, even if the system was decent, you can't do it very easily because the the wiring harness is different. Many XK8 owners with the factory nav system want the gauges, but they can't swap out their nav system for gauges because the harness doesn't have the right wires in it.
BUT, there is an alternative. If you can get the wood pieces from a junked XK8, you can install a large Garmin or Magellan unit in the hole where the factory nav system is supposed to go. My XK8 had the factory nav, but I removed it and installed a Garmin 1490t. It fits in the hole almost perfectly. It has a touch screen, so it's much easier to use than the cruddy factory nav. And my maps are current. It looks like it was installed at the factory. Go to jaguarforums.com and in the XK8 forum you can find some pictures of ones people have replaced.

If you have to ask, you don't need to be driving a Jaguar.
Change it exactly as listed in your owners manual.

Very carefully.
you don't have to check, top off, or change transmission fluid on a Jaguar. Their transmissions are manufactured "oiled for life".
