No, they are two different regional format. Unless you have an all Region DVD Player which is not available anywhere. Your computer might be able to play these Japanese DVDs but you have to change the regional format of your computer to region 2. Setback is you cannot play Region 1 anymore on your computer.

Do DVDs that are from US work on DVD English DVD players?

DVDs are usually encoded with a region number. North America is number 1 and Europe is region 2. In order to play a DVD, the disc and the player need to be coded as the same region. Most US DVDs therefore won't play on most English players. There are a handful of players that ignore the region code but most are third party modifications and often will not be covered by any manufacturer's warranty. Yes, you need a multi-region DVD player to solve the region code imcompatible issue.

What does it mean when DVDs say region 1 on it?

All DVDs have a region code. All DVD players also have a region code. The code of the DVD has to match that of the player. Region 1 means North America. Incidentally, the entire "region" scheme is a scam to artificially segregate markets.

When will Chuck season 3 be released on DVD in region 4?

The Chuck season 2 DVDs released in England stated on the box that they were region 2. But the actual DVDs also supported region 4, and work fine on Australian DVD players. The Chuck season 3 DVDs have already been released in England (region 2). But I don't yet know for sure whether the DVDs are also region 4 compatible.

Can you play an American DVD on a Belgian DVD player?

No! The reason is that when the DVD was invented, a set of about ten region codes were created so that only an American player would play American DVDs, and only a European player would play European DVDs, etc, etc. This was done so that DVDs of movies could not be shared between countries, and so that if you want to view a movie in Belgium, you have to buy a separate copy. Most DVD players can be hacked to change their internal region code. Google "hack my DVD".

Willl American DVDs work in Irish DVD players?

American DVD won't work in Europe for two reasons. First, the color encoding system is different. Although North American and European color encoding work in similar ways, they are not compatible. The major issue is that commercial DVDs have a region code imbedded in them. A DVD coded for the North American market will not work in players made for Europe or other parts of the world. There are a small number of DVD players that ignore the region code but they are hard to find and normally have no manufacturer's warranty. It is far, far less complicated to simply buy the right DVD for the player.

No, DVDs are coded by regions. Most DVDs sold in a region will only let you watch DVDs from that region. Some DVD players will play from any region, and most will allow you to change the region once or twice and hen locks in on that region. Computer systems will normally allow you to watch any region DVD.Check the user instructions for your DVD player to see what region it was made for.If the DVD has a Region 0 code, it can be played anywhere.

Do American imported dvds play on English DVD players sony?

Generally, North American DVDs don't play on any DVD player sold outisde North America. There are two reasons. First, North American video formats are somewhat different to European formats. While many DVD players and televisions in Europe are able to handle the US format, not all will do so. The other reason is purely commercial. Each region has a number code. North America is region 1, Europe is region two with a total of five regions worldwide. A player made for the European market will check the region code of each disc and if it encounters a region 1 disc, it simply won't play it. The reason for this restriction is to prevent discs made for one market being used and traded in other markets. Similar restrictions apply to many games consoles and Bluray players. Note that privately produced DVDs usually don't have a region code and are likely to work on any player.
