That's the beauty of the dual slot function in the Nintendo DS - you can do that! Pokemon Red Rescue Team was made specifically for use in the dual slot of the DS so it could communicate internally with Blue Rescue Team.

Simply turn the DS off, insert the Red Rescue Team cartridge, then the Blue Rescue team cartridge and turn the system on. It is possible for you to accept and commence your friend rescue from the Red Rescue Team game menu without any other means than by putting it together with Blue in the DS. The same can be done the other way around (ie. from Blue Rescue Team to Red).

The only feature the game lacks is simultaneous play. Therefore, switching rescue teams becomes tedious as you literally have to switch games back and forth.
