Absolutely 2g+ although if you don't have a 4g iPod Touch you need to get headphones with a built in mic to actually talk.

Does TextNow Voice need wifi on your ipod?

Yes. Wifi is the only way that the iPod touch can transmit the voice data to the Textnow server to carry the call. With an iPhone, wifi is not required because it can also use the edge or 3G data connections.

Is the textfree textnow or textplus for itouch better?

I think textfree is the better one. I did use textnow, but the number they give you looks weird and doesn't have the right area code. Textplus gives you a texting adress, not a real phone number. Textfree gives you a number with your area code, and you can call people with it too.
