There may be some variation in different jurisdictions but generally, a child cannot make that decision. The child can express a desire to live with a particular parent but it will be up to the judge to decide if the other parent, presumably the one with physical custody, doesn't consent. A judge is under no obligation to approve of the child's choice. The judge will decide what placement is in thebestinterest of the child.

If you are the mother your parents have an overall say, if they say it is best for him to take the child then it will be done.
However if you are the father think for a minute, is the child better with the mother & grandparents or with you, also are you going to take care of a baby full time, if so who will earn the household living, think for a minute babies require a LOT of care & love if they don't get it they will be screwed up for life if it's better with the mother you can get visitation rights to see him/her.
This is Texas State law, it will vary by your state, but not much its all almost the same law everywhere, but just DO WHATS BEST FOR THE CHILD!!!

No. Of course not. Children are not supposed to stay alone ever. You are completely responsible for your children all the time. If you need to leave, you must get a responsible adult to take over the care of your children until you can return. Never leave children alone. In some cases, teenagers who have proven to be responsible may be left alone. But it is dependent upon the age and the responsibilty level of the child.
