I think in almost all states the 17 year old would be considered a run away.
the law states that if you are 17 and you would like to move out in the state of Georgia with out your parents consent you can, for reasons such as not getting along with parents, pregnant, or just want a change.
Yes you can leave your house when you are 17 years of ge in Georgia. In my case I wish it was 16. And if you are under the age of 17 or 18 then you can get an emancipation that is very hard to get. You have to prove your case and have to have a really good reason why you should leave your house other than you don't get along with your parents. And you have to prove that you can support yourself on your own.
In most states as long as you have finished high school and by that i mean reciveving your diploma you can legally move out at 17 but i would call your states emancipation courts first
Georgia's law is contradictory. Some police officers are even ignorant about it. So, if one tells you that you can't leave at 17, demand to speak to his/her supervisor. They must let you talk to their seargent at that time. Here is how it works: In Georgia, a child's parents are responsible for whatever they do until age 18 (barring marriage or military service, which automatically emancipates them)...BUT (and it's a big BUT) a child can now go to prison in Georgia at 17. That created a conflict in the law. Long story short, a child can leave home at 17, and there's nothing the police or parents can do, but the parents are still responsible for the child's actions unless they go to the court to have the child emancipated. I repeat: THE CHILD CAN LEAVE AT 17, BUT THE PARENTS CANNOT KICK OUT THE CHILD UNTIL 18.
I don't know about Georgia Law per se, but your parents would be still liable and they could have you arrested and forcibly go back home until you reach the age of majority (18 in most states, 21 in some others).
I see a lot of questions similar to this. The fact is that anybody can leave their parents house when they're big enough to do so. The police in most state will not force the teenager to return home against their wishes. They might take the teenager into custody if they are in danger where they have decided to go.
Teenagers leaving their parent's for another home is considered a status crime by the police. They might ask the kid to go home, but will not force them. It is not until the parents file a court action and convince a judge that it is in the best interests of the teenager to be returned home, and get an order for the police to take the teenager into custody and return them home, will the police actually make you go home.
Some states may be different (in Idaho in the early 1970's police would forceably return any runaway under the age of 18). Call your police department and ask what they would do. I went and talked to mine today and they told me what I wrote above. I inquired because my sister in another state could not get the police to return her 15 y/o daughter who decided to live with her friend and her parents.
Yes you can, but you cannot be kicked out until the age of majority (18). Some police officers are stupid, so ask for their supervisor if you get any flack, because in Georgia, you can definitely legally leave at 17. Be aware that you cannot sign any Contracts until 18, and that includes Leases, so have somewhere to live before you move out.
Yes, in Georgia you can leave home at 17 (because you can go to jail at that age), and you will not get in trouble and cannot be forced to return, but you can't be kicked out until age 18.
When child turns 18, or if child is still in high school, when child turns 20.
See below link:
No, you need to be 18 or emancipated to legally move out. Or have your parent's permission.
No.
She has to have parental permission or a court order.
No, you cannot legally move out. You must be 18 or have their permission.
No. The minimum age to marry in Georgia is 16, and that's with parental consent.
Not legally, but if parental consent is given, there's not really any repercussion or consequence.
Parental consent to do what? Having a child does not emancipate you--you are still a minor and therefore under the control of your parents. However, you (not your parents) do have parental rights over your own child.
since you can't get legally married till your 18 without parental consent, you would have to get parental consent to move out before you got married, even if your parentals agreed...
You have to be 18 to marry without parental consent. If you are 16/17 you can marry with parental consent. If you are under 16 you need parental consent and court approval.
No, in Georgia, you cannot move out until 17.
No, not legally.
