I think that if you don't want to live with your mom you should have a good reason, i mean you're 17 already, you are almost an adult you should already know whats good and bad for you. If you are sure of this i think that you should go ahead and go live with your dad but, talk to your mom first let her know your reasons for why you are leaving. Be careful with what you do, because life could be pretty complicated sometimes, so watch out and take action as an adult that you are about to be and not as a kid. I hope that my advice can help you make a better decision.
As a minor you can not be adopted against your guardians wishes unless they have mistreated you in some way and loose their parental rights.
biological perspective
no but she said she wishes she could adopt him
Absolutely not-- Joan has said countless times that she wishes she had a daughter...... that she has many "adopted" daughters. but NO daughters---- real or adopted.

If the 28 year old was adopted and wishes to find out if a person is her biological father then one step is to Locate the birth certificate to see if the biological father is listed, next would be to contact a professional organization that specializes in finding birth parents of adopted children. Adoption records can be extremely difficult if not impossible to have unsealed. If the 28 year old was not adopted and just wants to know if a specific person she knows/suspects is her father, then she may ask that person to volunteer for a DNA test to determine paternity. If the person refuses the DNA testing then there is nothing that can legally be done, since it is not a crime to be an unknown father.
Yes. If the biological parents are fit the court will give them custody first.
Honor your parents' wishes. You can't really hide braces anyways.

In all U.S. states the biological unwed mother is considered to have sole legal and physical custody of her child. If the biological father wishes to assert his parental rights he must first establish paternity to the child in question and petition the court for visitation privileges or custodial rights. If the mother wishes to pursue child support for the minor child she must show proof of paternity (signed birth certificate, or notarized affidavit for the father). It is the responsibility of the alledged father to prove he is or is not the biological father of the child, regarding custody, visitation and/or obligation of financial support.
Not for final full custody. The court has to decide who the children will go to. If they have lived with stepparent for years and know him/her as a parent the stepparent have a chance for custody. If the biological parent have left a will with his/hers wishes, it will also play a part. It's all about what is best for the children. Get a lawyer.
