I had a betta with two goldfish and the betta killed one and was close to killing the other.

beta fish do not like competitive finns, a fish with small finns is no threat, the average goldfish has annoying finns to a beta and it will kill it. if the tank is large enough the fish will stake out territory and be happy.

Can a Betta live with goldfish... Although they may be able to tolerate eachother for an amount of time from everything I have read it is not recommended. Bettas need warm water (70-80+ degrees) and Goldfish need cold water. For the longevity of both fish, it is not recommended.
