Depends. When you turn on the unit, does it work? If not, then yes.
Yes in a anderson flexivent window
Check the clip fron the window to the regulator. These will break off and you will hear the motor working but the window will not go up or down. You can replace your regulator and motor as one unit for little cost, if broken. You might get away with just replacing the clip to your window/regulator.
Not by yourself, and not a window unit at all.
If the electrical grid across the glass has any breaks it will fail. If you are careless while cleaning the inside of the rear window you can break the "circuit" and the unit will not work. They do sell a metallic liquid you can apply to the damaged area that repairs the break, check with your local auto parts store.

Is it a new or an old window unit? Assuming your looking to refill it I will assume it is an old window unit which most likely uses R-22 refrigerant. R-22 is an ozone depleting refrigerant that is being phased out but should be available until 2010. There should be a label on the window unit stating which refrigerant is used.
I do believe that 91 and 94 are the same procedure. have to remove the door handle and the window handle. there is a clip that holds the window handle. There are three screws that hold the unit (window regulator)in place. You will have to get the window up and out of the carrier and, pull the unit out. put the new unit in and, place the window in the carrier but, make sure the window is at the full closed position (that is where you need another set of hands) then, you tighten up the screw in the unit. The window is seated at the full closed position therefore when you tighten the unit up is wont twist. when I got someone else to replace the window regulator they had that window in the down position and the new regulator lasted about 2 weeks and then broke again... thanks mr mechanic....grin
A carrier window unit heater can often be repaired by replacing the internal fuses. More complex repairs may require the unit to be serviced by an experienced technician.
depends on the size of the unit you want to use and the size of the window plus how many rooms you are trying to keep cool and if the unit is energy efficient and depends on how much you are willing to spend on the unit
