Can a convicted felon with an MBA find suitable employment?

I think it depends on who you know. I got my federal felony (nonviolent) at the age of 23, completed undergrad at the age of 27, got my MBA by the age of 29, (from good colleges) and cannot find meaningful employment. However, there could be a number of issues regarding this...I am black, have some good work experience but not substantial work experience, and perhaps I am not networking like I should. When I do network, people are afraid to refer me even though I only got one year of probation for my felony. I think that when I am honest on my application, it is easy to pass me over for an equally qualified candidate who does not have a felony. I am 31 as of now and have vowed to never give up. I have outstanding marketable skills, and will continue to build my resume with outstanding achievements. that is, by volunteering if I have to......doing some consulting for free to achieve measurable results...which builds credibility. Keep it up, friend, we've come too far to just lay on the floor and just die.....keep fighting.

Make sure that you are looking for the type of job where a lapse in integrity will not affect the employer. Teaching in public schools, financial corporations, or most medical fields may not be options. Auto repair, trades and such may be more open to you. You can also look into what states expunge your record after a time, which may help even though you cannot lie on an application. Definitely get some specific advice from successful ex-felons. Remember though, that once you find the right job fit and are the right person to fill it, there should not be any problem. Work on being that right person and don't allow bitterness to overtake you.
